Forcing Forsythia

The forsythia in my garden is a tangled thicket. It suffers from benign neglect on my part. I brought a couple of rooted branches when I moved here over 25 years ago and cut it back when it starts to spread too far. This particular forsythia has always been a sparse bloomer and I should replace it with a better blooming variety...someday.

I took some cuttings and smashed the cut end with a hammer.  I'll keep them in the garage for a couple of days and then move them inside the house. The tulips that I forced last year were a disappointment since it had very small flowers so I'm hoping I have better luck with the forsythia.

I also got the rain gauge to report rainfall for CoCoRaHS this week. It's a substantial gauge but over priced. I've never had a gauge that could measure in hundredths so that is neat.
This weeks church arrangement.

  1. Glad to see you got your rain gauge, yes, rather overpriced. Have you started reporting your rainfall amounts yet?
I have some very small forsythia, hope they do well -- love the bright yellow blooms in the early spring.

  2. Yes, I'm submitting my rainfall amounts. The rain gauge is really easy to read.
