This has been a mild winter so I expected the daffodils to open a little earlier this year. I've seen them blooming in other gardens and even in roadside ditches but mine held off until this week. But two mild warm days this week brought them into full bloom. Nothing says winter is over like daffodils blooming. I planted bags of mixed bulbs many years ago so have no idea the names of these daffodils. Some of the clumps are 10-15 years old. I do divide the bigger clumps but don't get around to it every year.
Love varieties of daffodils planted in the landscape....from the white ones to the frilly yellow ones and everything in between.
ReplyDeleteJanet, Clumps of blooming daffodils just shout spring to me. I'm of the opinion you can't have too many.
DeleteWhich means ,no daffodils for the Easter Vigil, unless you have some late blooming varieties
ReplyDeleteBut are you sure winter is really over?
By the way what will be in bloom the second week of April?
Forsythia? Dogwood ? Redbud?
I'm sure it will be slim pickings of daffodils for Easter this year. I think tulips, dogwood, crab apple, redbud, camellia and possibly azaleas will be bloom for Easter. Forsythia usually blooms the third week of March here so it will have passed. I can feel and smell spring--winter is over in my garden.
