More late winter flowers

This is a picture of Daphne that has been growing under the roof overhang in a shady spot in the side yard garden.  The flower buds are small but compliment the varigated foliage.  Normally it is in full bloom at this time of the year and is very fragrant.  The foliage stays green in winter so it really stands out.

I planted this shrub about 15 years agao and it is one of the few that I've never moved. It seems to like this location but it is starting to spread across the walk.  It has a natural rounding habit without trimming.

Daphne needs well drained soil but seems to be forgiving.  In this location the soil is mostly clay but nearby tree roots keep it on the dry side.  I planted two of the same variety but after about 10 years the other one died.  I've been told that they are tempermental but this one seems to thrive on neglect since other than watering during dry periods I have not done anything special.

  3. It looks so healthy. I always hear how touchy these shrubs are, but yours seems to like it's spot to have been there for so long. I have a much smaller one blooming now, it's one of my favorite smelling flowers.
