Getting Started

This is my first entry.  I'm working on the mechanics of establishing a blog and as I learn more I'll try to improve the presentation and readability.  Keeping a blog diary of my garden is a New Years resolution so let's get started.

Today I received several more garden/seed catalogues, seems they are a bit late this year.  I took a good look at the Jackson & Perkins rose catalogue this weekend.  I like my knock-out roses but plan to replace them with roses that have a stronger fragrance and are good for cutting.  Many years ago I had a nice rose garden though I never seemed to really control black spot but 25 years later I just remember the beautiful blooms which seems to be a good trade for the extra attention they need.

I enjoy gardening chores in the winter since I can leisurely clean up, trim, and transplant shrubs and perennials.  It's been cold, wet and snow the last two weeks so I haven't been able to check any items off my winter garden work list.  Over 3" of rain fell over the weekend and more forecast for tomorrow so the garden is water logged and even the lawn is spongy.

  1. I remember those roses when I was growing up. Especially you going out in the morning to cut a few so Laura and I could take them to our teachers. Did you think they needed additional charming? HAHAHA. Love your garden Dad, it is so beautiful and relaxing. I enjoying gardening, but find my time is limited. Spring gardening is my favorite and I look forward to it again this year.
